BJP’s “Gaon Chalo” Campaign: A Rural Connect Drive Ahead of Lok Sabha Polls

Lucknow : In a strategic move leading up to the Lok Sabha polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its “gaon chalo (head to villages)” campaign set to kick off in Uttar Pradesh from February. The decision was finalized during a crucial meeting in Lucknow, attended by the party’s key leaders, including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Emphasis on Village Connectivity

The importance of villages in the BJP’s electoral strategy is evident through initiatives like the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, a mega campaign aimed at connecting with all 58,000 villages by delivering government schemes to doorsteps. The “gaon chalo” campaign further underscores the party’s commitment to engaging with rural communities.

Dialogue in Chaupals: Merging “Ram and Ram Rajya”

During this outreach initiative, party leaders and cadres will spend nights in villages, engaging in dialogues with farmers in chaupals (local gatherings). The focus will be on discussing the rural outreach measures of both the central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the state government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The narrative aims to convey the BJP’s commitment to blending religious beliefs with tangible benefits for the people.

BJP’s national general secretary, Vinod Tawde, revealed that in preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the party plans to create clusters of about 20 Lok Sabha constituencies.

Commitment to a Record Third Consecutive Win

U.P. BJP chief Bhupendra Chaudhary expressed confidence in the state unit’s readiness to secure a third consecutive win for the BJP under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He pledged the unit’s full commitment to campaign efforts.

Micro-Level Engagement Strategies

The party is not only focusing on traditional campaigning but is also deploying micro-level strategies. Booth level “wall writing” campaigns have begun to reinforce attention towards pro-poor policies initiated by the BJP. The concept of ‘panna pramukh,’ introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, involves leaders connecting with voters at a micro level.

Youth and First-Time Voter Engagement

Recognizing the importance of youth in shaping electoral outcomes, the BJP has formulated plans to connect with students in colleges and hostels. Additionally, special “nav-matdata sammelan (new voter meets)” will be conducted to engage with first-time voters, setting the stage for an inclusive and dynamic election strategy.
