In a decisive victory, BJP candidate Kuljit Singh Sandhu emerged victorious in the re-election for the post of Senior Deputy Mayor in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. The BJP secured 19 votes, surpassing the combined total of 16 votes garnered by Congress and AAP. Notably, one vote was declared invalid.
The re-elections for the positions of Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor were mandated by the Supreme Court on February 20, overturning the results of the January 30 Chandigarh mayoral poll, where the initial BJP candidate had emerged as the unexpected winner. Congress councillors Gurpreet Singh Gabi and Nirmala Devi contested for the posts of Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor, respectively.
