In a significant development, a special CBI court in Lucknow has pronounced guilty verdicts for seven individuals involved in the 2005 murder case of former BSP MLA Raju Pal.

BSP MLA Raju Pal Murder Case

BSP MLA Raju Pal Murder Case. Raju Pal, a prominent BSP leader from Allahabad, was assassinated on January 25, 2005, due to political rivalry, notably with gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad’s brother Ashraf, whom he had defeated in the 2004 Prayagraj West bypoll.

The convicted individuals, including Ranjeet Pal, Abid, Farhan Ahmad, Israr Ahmad, Javed, Gulhasan, and Abdul Kavi, were found guilty of various charges including criminal conspiracy and murder. Additionally, Farhan Ahmad faced charges under the Indian Arms Act.

This case gained further attention as Atiq Ahmad, a key accused, was shot dead in April 2023, along with his brother Ashraf, while being transported for medical examination. The assailants, posing as journalists, carried out the attack, leading to their prompt arrest.

Atiq Ahmad was not only involved in Raju Pal’s murder but also faced allegations in the Umesh Pal murder case. Notably, Umesh Pal, a key witness in Raju Pal’s killing, was murdered as well.

In July 2023, Prayagraj Police’s Special Investigation Team filed a comprehensive chargesheet against the three assailants responsible for Atiq Ahmad’s murder, namely Lavlesh Tiwari, Arun Maurya, and Sunny Singh, all with criminal backgrounds.

This conviction underscores the pursuit of justice and the resolve to address criminal elements in Uttar Pradesh’s political landscape, marking a crucial step towards accountability and law enforcement.
