Nijjar Murder Case: Canada police released pictures of people arrested in Nijjar murder case, all accused Indians

Canadia: Canadian police have arrested three Indian national in connection with the murder of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar they suspect were part of the alleged hit squad that had killed Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar last year. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has now released the pictures and identities of all three accused, who were arrested in Edmonton City in Alberta.

They were arrested on Friday with the help of Alberta RCMP, IHIT investigators and members from the British Columbia province. This comes amid allegations of Indian connection to Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s death; for this very reason, the two nations have been on loggerheads.

According to court documents, Karanpreet Singh (28), Kamalpreet Singh (22), and Karan Brar (22) each face charges of one count first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit murder Nijjar’s death, Canadian news reported. In September last year, Nijjar’s killing became the centre of a diplomatic row between India and Canada after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused “Indian agents” of playing a role in the killing. India rejected PM Trudeau’s allegations, calling them absurd.

They have been charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder, showed court documents. At a press conference with media RCMP Assistant Commissioner David Teboul, who leads the federal policing program in the Pacific region, stressed the active nature of the investigation into Nijjar’s murder.

He said, “Three suspects have been arrested and charged for their alleged involvement in Nijjar’s murder… We cannot comment on the nature of the evidence… nor can we speak to the motive behind Nijjar’s murder… However, I will say that this matter remains an active investigation.” Nijjar, a Canadian citizen who was wanted in India on various terror charges, was shot dead outside a gurdwara in Surrey on June 18, 2023.
