Candidate from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Ujjain Returns to Congress Before Madhya Pradesh Elections

Vivek Yadav, who was previously an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, has re-joined the Congress. Yadav left the Congress earlier this week after not receiving a ticket to contest in the upcoming assembly elections scheduled for next month.

Reportedly, Maya Trivedi, the Congress candidate for the Ujjain North Assembly constituency, along with senior Congress leader Randeep Surjewala and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, persuaded Yadav to return to the Congress fold ahead of the elections.

Expressing his disappointment after not securing the party’s ticket, Vicky Yadav had left the Congress and joined the AAP. He had been seeking a ticket to contest from the Ujjain North assembly constituency, but the Congress party fielded Maya Rajesh Trivedi, a female candidate, for that seat.

Yadav stated, “I have worked continuously at the grassroots level for the last 20-25 years. My name was at the top of the party’s internal survey. I request senior leaders to swear to Lord Mahakal and tell me if my name is not at the top, and I am ready to do whatever they say.”

He criticized the candidate to whom the Congress had given the ticket, calling her a “traitor.” He claimed that she had tried to prevent Kamal Nath from becoming Chief Minister during the 2018 assembly elections, and that 15 councillors had filed complaints against her. He also pointed out her stance on the Atrocity Act and the opposition she faced from a woman belonging to the SC-ST community. These factors led him to join the AAP.

However, it’s worth noting that Vivek Yadav has not yet been granted a ticket by the Congress, and his return to the party was influenced by the persuasion of other party members.

Madhya Pradesh is set to hold assembly polls on November 17, during which the state will elect legislators for 230 Assembly constituencies. The election will be conducted in a single phase, with the counting taking place on December 3.
