Despite the passing of three days since the fifth phase of nominations, uncertainty lingers over the BJP and Congress candidates for the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat. Congress has yet to announce candidates for Rae Bareli and Amethi Lok Sabha seats. Priyanka Gandhi’s name has been circulating for the Rae Bareli seat, but with only two days left for nominations, confusion mounts over Congress’s pick.
In Kanakapur village, located in Lalganj block of Rae Bareli district, villagers have erected a banner outside the village, declaring “No Priyanka, no vote.” They express their sentiment, stating that if Priyanka Gandhi doesn’t contest from Rae Bareli, they’ll boycott the elections. Their loyalty to the Gandhi family spans years, and they wish to see either Priyanka or Rahul Gandhi contest from Rae Bareli.
Candidates may be Announced Today
However, sources suggest that the Gandhi family isn’t keen on contesting from Amethi and Rae Bareli seats. Priyanka Gandhi reportedly prefers not to contest from Rae Bareli, while Rahul Gandhi aims to represent the Wayanad seat alone. This leaves Congress in a quandary for both seats, with demoralized workers adding to the confusion. The announcement of candidates for both seats is expected today. If Rahul and Priyanka decline to contest, the party’s backup plan includes former MLC Deepak Singh, KL Sharma, Aradhana Mishra Mona, or Ashish Kaul as potential candidates.
