Ex-MP Dhananjay Singh released from Bareilly jail after bail granted by Allahabad HC

Jaunpur: Dhananjay Singh, former MP from Jaunpur Lok Sabha seat of UP, has been released from Bareilly Central Jail. As soon as he came out of jail after being released on Wednesday morning, he said that I was convicted in a fake case. My wife is contesting elections. I will go straight to my area. After this he left for Jaunpur.

The MP-MLA court in Jaunpur on March 6, sentenced Singh and his associate Santosh Vikram to seven years of rigorous imprisonment in a 2020 kidnapping and extortion case.

Let us tell you that after taking the release permit, the special messenger had left for Bareilly Central Jail from Jaunpur Jail. He was released from jail on Wednesday morning. From Saturday, former Jaunpur MP Dhananjay Singh was shifted to Bareilly Central Jail. Dhananjay Singh was kept in high security barrack. On the same day, Allahabad High Court granted bail to Dhananjay Singh, but refused to stay the sentence.

Dhananjay Singh’s wife Srikala Reddy is BSP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Jaunpur and was to file nomination on May 1. Due to delay in Dhananjay’s release, Srikala will now file her nomination on May 4.

Dhananjay Singh was sentenced on March 7 in the kidnapping and extortion case. In that case, plaintiff Abhinav Singhal had filed an FIR of kidnapping and extortion against two people including former MP Dhananjay Singh at Line Bazar police station on May 10, 2020. The police arrested both of them and sent them to jail.

The police investigated and filed the charge sheet in the court within three months. The court had framed charges against Dhananjay and his associate on April 2, 2022. After this, after 130 dates of hearing, on March 5, 2023, two including Dhananjay were found guilty. After this, the sentence was pronounced on March 7, 2024.

On April 27, on the orders of the government, Jaunpur Police had shifted Dhananjay Singh to Bareilly Central Jail. Meanwhile, he got bail from the High Court. On Tuesday, Jaunpur District Jail Superintendent SK Pandey sent the release permit to Bareilly Central Jail through radio messenger. Dhananjay Singh was released from jail on Wednesday morning itself.
