Central government’s big decision for single parents, will get more than 700 days leave

The central government has taken a big decision in the interest of women and single male government employees. The government told the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that a female or single male government employee has the right to take leave to take care of their children. Regarding this decision, Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said that women and single male government employees will get leave for up to 730 days to take care of their children. Female Government servants and single male Government servants appointed to civil services and posts are eligible for Child Care Leave (CCL) under Rule 43-C of the Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1972.

What does the government rule say?

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Jitendra Singh said that there is a provision for grant of leave for the care of the two eldest children up to the age of 18 years, up to a maximum of 730 days during the entire service. He said that there is no age limit fixed in the case of a disabled child.

Sikkim government is also giving leave

According to information, this announcement comes a few weeks after Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang said that the Sikkim government will provide 12 months maternity leave and one month paternity leave to its employees. CM Tamang had said that this benefit would help government employees to take better care of their children and families. In India, parental leave is governed by the Maternity Benefit Act 1961, which allows working women to take paid maternity leave for 6 months.
