Central team to visit states worst affected by heatwave, to suggest immediate steps

New Delhi: Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya today chaired a high-level meeting to review the preparedness in view of the severe heat and heat wave in the country, as many states are in the grip of severe heat. Mansukh Mandaviya said that a five-member team led by senior officials of the Health Ministry would visit the states badly affected by the heat wave.

Mansukh Mandaviya said that arrangements will be made at every level for the safety of common life. We want to make sure that no one gets heat stroke. The Meteorological Department has predicted severe to very severe heatwave conditions in various regions like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Vidarbha, Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana. In the last few days, many reports of death due to severe heat have come to the fore from several states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Odisha.

If you look at the HEAT WAVE MAP, it will be clear that heat wave is going on in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Eastern Madhya Pradesh, Bihar Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Vidarbha. The heat wave was continuing for 8 to 10 days in the states of eastern India. There has been some drop in the temperature in these states since yesterday. In the coming days, we estimate that the heat wave is expected to remain in these states till today. Heatwave may continue in Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh till tomorrow and after that the temperature will start decreasing again.

The main reason for the reduction of heat wave is the advance of monsoon rains. Monsoon has now advanced from North East India and our estimate is that after reaching parts of Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, there will be rains there. From Wednesday, the temperature of the states facing the heat wave will start decreasing.
