Raipur, Chhattisgarh: Former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel has made allegations against the ruling BJP, claiming that the party is attempting to lure Congress MLAs with promises of ministerial berths and Lok Sabha election tickets. Baghel asserted that these tactics by the BJP are indicative of their anticipation of defeat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, expected to be held in April-May.
Speaking to reporters at the Swami Vivekananda Airport, Baghel revealed that an MLA from the Congress party informed him about being approached by the BJP. The alleged offer included a Lok Sabha poll ticket and a ministerial berth if the BJP were to retain power at the Centre. Baghel emphasized that such conversations and attempts to woo Congress MLAs have been ongoing.
While Bhupesh Baghel made these serious allegations, there has been no official response from BJP leaders on the matter. The accusations come at a time when political developments in states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra have suggested potential challenges for the BJP in the 2024 national elections.
Baghel expressed his belief that the BJP, sensing possible defeat in the upcoming national elections, is adopting divisive tactics to create discord within other political parties. According to Baghel, the BJP’s actions are reflective of a lack of confidence to face the polls independently, leading them to engineer rifts in other parties.
Bhupesh Baghel served as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh from 2018 to 2023 but was ousted from office after the Congress lost to the BJP in the November Assembly polls. Baghel’s claims add to the growing political tension in Chhattisgarh, with potential implications for the political landscape in the lead-up to the Lok Sabha elections.
