Congress High Command Gathers in Hyderabad to Chart Strategy for Upcoming State Elections

Hyderabad, New Delhi: The Congress Working Committee (CWC) is convening today to formulate its electoral strategy for the imminent assembly elections in five states.

The CWC session will be presided over by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, with the presence of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, among others, the sources added.

Party General Secretary K.C. Venugopal expressed confidence in the Congress’s ability to secure victories in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram, all of which are scheduled for elections later this year.

Additionally, the gathering may include discussions on the possibility of organizing ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra 2.

On the following Monday, the party has scheduled a massive rally in Hyderabad, during which “six guarantees for the people of Telangana” will be announced, as outlined by senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh. He characterized the CWC meeting as a historic event with the potential to bring about transformation in Telangana politics.

In a stinging critique of the BRS government led by K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Ramesh drew parallels between the Modi government and the KCR administration, asserting that they are “two sides of the same coin.” According to him, there is no discernible difference between the two, with Narendra Modi in Delhi and KCR in Hyderabad.

The upcoming Telangana elections are expected to witness a triangular contest involving the BJP, the incumbent BRS, and the Congress. The outcome of the Telangana election will be closely watched as it serves as a litmus test for the INDIA alliance ahead of the critical 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Last month, the Congress reconstituted the Congress Working Committee, introducing some unexpected additions to the lineup. This committee, assembled 10 months after Mallikarjun Kharge took office as party chief, consists of 39 regular members, 32 permanent invitees, and 13 special invitees.
