In the IPL 2024 match between CSK and SRH, MS Dhoni created history by becoming the first player to notch up 150 victories in the tournament. CSK triumphed over SunRisers by a massive 78-run margin, propelling themselves back into the top 4 of the points table.

In the clash held in Chennai, CSK secured a convincing 78-run victory against SRH on Sunday.

MS Dhoni Makes History in IPL


MS Dhoni’s tally of 150 wins surpasses the second-placed Rohit Sharma by 17 victories. Dhoni, who is already renowned as the most successful captain in IPL history, achieved this milestone in a dominant display against SunRisers, restricting them to a mere 134 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Participating in 259 IPL matches since its inception in 2008, the 42-year-old Dhoni shares the title of the most successful IPL captain with 5 championship wins. In the ongoing season, he has delegated the leadership duties to Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Rohit Sharma – 133 wins
Dinesh Karthik – 125 wins
Suresh Raina – 122 wins
MS Dhoni also holds the record for the most successful captain in the IPL, with 133 wins to his credit. Rohit Sharma follows with 87 victories.

In Sunday’s match, Dhoni delighted the Chepauk crowd with a brief appearance, entering the crease in the final over after Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed for 98. Dhoni managed to score a boundary on the first ball and took a single off the next, remaining unbeaten with 5 runs off 2 deliveries as CSK amassed a formidable total of 212.

Dhoni, donning the gloves, also contributed with a catch as CSK dominated SunRisers comprehensively across all facets of the game. Daryl Mitchell’s swift half-century and his five outfield catches equalled an IPL record.

Known for his impactful cameos with the bat, Dhoni has amassed 96 runs in just 37 balls at a striking rate of 257. His late-innings heroics have often been pivotal, such as his blitz against Hardik Pandya at the Wankhede Stadium, where he smashed 3 consecutive sixes to finish with 20 runs off 4 balls, ultimately making the difference between CSK and MI in the El Clasico.

With their commanding 78-run victory over SRH, CSK reclaimed their spot in the top 4, currently occupying the 3rd position with 10 points from 9 matches.
