Delhi Christmas Morning: Thick Fog Blankets City, Air Quality Upgrades to ‘Very Poor’ Category

On the chilly Christmas morning in Delhi, a dense blanket of fog enveloped the city, creating an atmospheric spectacle. Simultaneously, there was a notable improvement in air quality, transitioning from the previous “severe” category to the present “very poor” classification, according to official reports.

The India Meteorological Department disclosed that the minimum temperature for the day settled at 9.4 degrees Celsius, contributing to the cold weather prevailing in the national capital.

As of 8:30 am, the relative humidity was recorded at a high of 100 per cent, indicating the pervasive atmospheric conditions.

Providing insight into the air quality, the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 9:05 am measured 393, reflecting a positive shift. It’s noteworthy that the 24-hour AQI on the preceding Sunday was reported at 411.

It is crucial to note that the AQI scale categorizes air quality levels: “good” (0-50), “satisfactory” (51-100), “moderate” (101-200), “poor” (201-300), “very poor” (301-400), and “severe” (401-500). This real-time data serves as a valuable reference for residents and authorities alike to monitor and address air quality concerns in the region.
