Delhi: Drunk man arrested for stabbing sister-in-law to death while dispute with wife in Alipur

New Delhi: In a distressing incident, a 35-year-old man has been apprehended on Saturday for allegedly stabbing his sister-in-law to death during a domestic row in the outer Delhi’s Alipur area, an official said on Monday (March 18). The accused, identified as Pooran, allegedly attacked his wife, Moni, with a knife during the altercation. However, when Moni’s sister, Ritu, attempted to intervene, she tragically ended up being stabbed in the neck.

The accused suspected his wife of having an affair with the victim’s husband, police said, as per sources. The incident unfolded on Friday night when Pooran and his wife had a fight, allegedly under the influence of alcohol. After the attack, Pooran fled from the scene. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Ritu succumbed to her injuries and was declared dead by the doctors.

Pooran, who works in a factory, was apprehended by the police on Saturday morning. The authorities are currently investigating the case further.

According to the police, Pooran chased both women with a knife during the argument. While his wife managed to escape, the victim, Ritu, was stabbed in the neck. Ritu, who lived with her family in Singhu village, worked in a factory in Kundli along with her sister. Police were alerted by the hospital about a woman with stab wounds who had been declared dead. “Her husband and sister admitted the victim to the hospital,” a police officer stated.

During questioning, the victim’s sister revealed that Pooran suspected her of having an affair with Ritu’s husband, leading to regular arguments. The tragic incident occurred after both sisters returned home from work at a factory in Kundli at 7:30 pm.

“Being heavily intoxicated, he initiated an argument and then attempted to attack them with a knife. The sisters fled, and the accused pursued them,” stated the officer. While his wife managed to escape, Ritu was stabbed multiple times in the back before Pooran fled the scene, leaving her bleeding.

A case has been registered under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Several teams were formed to nab the accused. Cops also scanned the CCTV cameras to find the route taken by Pooran to flee the scene. “He was nabbed after several raids,” said cops.

As this investigation progresses, it aims to not only bring justice to the victims, but also examine the underlying issues of neighborhood rivalries, criminal backgrounds, and the effectiveness of law enforcement in dealing with threats. The tragic demise of Jai Bhagwan and Shubham is a reminder of the potential consequences of unresolved disputes and the critical need for vigilant and proactive community policing.
