New Delhi: Niharika Rai, Secretary of Delhi’s Planning Department, assured on Tuesday that public services, social welfare schemes, and subsidies remain unaffected despite ongoing protests by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the detention of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. She emphasized that the government’s commitment to delivering essential services remains steadfast, urging the public not to succumb to fear-mongering or misinformation.
Despite his custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal issued a directive on Tuesday, underscoring his concern for the health of Delhi’s residents. Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj revealed that Kejriwal’s directive aimed to address issues in health services, particularly concerning the availability of free medicines and tests at Mohalla clinics and hospitals across the city.
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED last Thursday in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case related to a money laundering investigation. Following his arrest, he was remanded to seven days of ED custody. The case revolves around alleged irregularities and money laundering in the formulation and implementation of the Delhi excise policy in 2022, which was subsequently scrapped.
Two senior AAP leaders, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, are currently in judicial custody in connection with the same excise policy case. Sisodia, who previously served as Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on February 26, 2023. Sanjay Singh, a Rajya Sabha member, was arrested by the ED on October 5 last year.
