Delhi LG Saxena removes 223 employees, appointed by ex-DCW chief Swati Maliwal

New Delhi: On Thursday, May 2, 223 employees of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) were dismissed with immediate effect on the orders of Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena. The move comes amid allegations that former DCW chairperson, Swati Maliwal, had made these appointments without proper authorisation, contravening established protocols.

“The DWCD had informed the DCW that the grantee institutions will not undertake any additional financial obligations to the government such as creation of posts, providing higher pay scales than the corresponding posts in the Government of NCT of Delhi, etc., without prior approval of the Administrative Department and Finance/Planning Department,” the DWCD said in the letter.

The letter further said that 223 contractual posts were “irregular” as due procedure was not followed and approval of the Delhi LG was not taken. The swift action taken by the DCW in response to the order from Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena reflects a dedication to transparency and accountability in its operations.

The letter added,”Furthermore, the increase in remuneration and allowances of the employees of the DCW is without any proper justification and in violation of the laid down procedures and guidelines.”
