New Delhi: As the conflict between Israel’s security forces and the Palestinian group Hamas intensifies, New Delhi is on high alert due to potential protests. Delhi Police will deploy a significant presence during Friday prayers, and enhanced security measures have been implemented around Jewish religious institutions and the Israel Embassy.
This security alert follows similar measures taken in various countries, including the US, UK, France, and Germany, to safeguard “potential Jewish targets” and manage “pro-Palestinian protesters” in response to the escalating violence in Israel.
France, in particular, imposed a ban on all pro-Palestinian demonstrations, citing concerns related to public order. Critics argue that this ban raises questions about freedom of speech and assembly.
The conflict has resulted in a significant loss of life, with over 1,500 people killed in Gaza, prompted by a surprise land-sea-air attack by Hamas, leading to retaliation from Israel and leaving 1,300 Israelis dead. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared a “state of war” and vowed to reduce Gaza to rubble as the violence continued.
Indian nationals who were stranded in Israel due to the ongoing conflict have been evacuated in the first flight under Operation Ajay, which landed in New Delhi today. The situation in the region remains a matter of global concern, with heightened security measures being implemented worldwide to ensure the safety of citizens and sensitive locations.
