The Election Commission has recently disclosed precise statistics regarding the voting turnout for the two phases of the Lok Sabha elections held in 2024. The updated data, released on Tuesday, indicates a notable rise in the voting percentage compared to earlier projections.
In the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections, held on April 19, 2024, a total of 66.14 percent of eligible voters exercised their franchise. Subsequently, in the second phase, which concluded on April 26, 2024, the voting percentage increased slightly to 66.71 percent. Within these phases, the Commission reported that 66.22 percent of male voters and 66.07 percent of female voters participated in the first phase, while in the second phase, 66.99 percent of male voters and 66.42 percent of female voters cast their votes.
It’s noteworthy that the voting percentage in the second phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections witnessed a slight decrease compared to the 2019 elections, where it stood at 69.64 percent. However, the Election Commission’s meticulous data analysis highlights a significant improvement in voter turnout compared to the initial estimates.
Previously, after the completion of the first phase, the Commission reported a voting percentage of 60.03 percent, which increased to approximately 61 percent (60.96 percent) after the second phase, according to preliminary data. However, as anticipated, the final figures surpassed these initial estimates, showcasing a commendable increase in voter participation.
With the first two phases concluded, attention now shifts to the third phase scheduled for May 7, 2024. This phase will encompass voting for a total of 94 seats. The Election Commission has announced that the results for all phases will be announced simultaneously on June 4, 2024.
