EC sends notice to Congress for publishing ‘corruption rate card’ advertisement against BJP

The Election Commission has issued a notice to the Karnataka unit of the Congress over its ‘corruption rate card’ advertisements published in newspapers against the BJP and asked it to provide ’empirical’ evidence by Sunday evening to prove these allegations. The Commission has issued this notice on Saturday evening following a complaint lodged by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Prove the allegations by May 7 – Election Commission

The Congress seems to be stuck in this whole matter. Let us tell you that the Congress had published an advertisement in the newspaper regarding the ‘corruption rate card’ against the BJP. On which BJP had filed a complaint before the Election Commission. At the same time, BJP has also filed a case of defamation in this matter. On the complaint of the BJP, the Election Commission has given notice to the Congress and asked to submit evidence to prove the allegations by May 7. Ahead of the May 10 assembly elections in Karnataka, the Congress released posters listing the ‘corruption rate’ in Karnataka from 2019 to 2023 and described the BJP government as a ‘trouble engine’.

Earlier on May 2, the Election Commission had advised all parties and stakeholders to be careful about the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and the language of their statements during the election campaign so that the dignity of political dialogue can be maintained.
