The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out raids at seven locations in Mumbai connected to Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Ravindra Waikar and his associates in a money laundering case related to the construction of a luxury hotel in Jogeshwari. The investigation revolves around the alleged manipulation of land use conditions during the construction of the hotel.

The case stems from the ED registering an instance under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in November, commonly referred to as the ‘₹500 crore 5-Star Hotel Scam.’ It is asserted that Waikar deceived the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) of ₹500 crore by acquiring permission to construct a five-star hotel on a plot originally reserved for a BMC playground.
