Washington: Walter Mirisk, former president of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, died Friday at the age of 101. Walter Mirisk died of natural causes in Los Angeles, California.

Washington: Walter Mirisk, former president of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, died Friday at the age of 101. Walter Mirisk died of natural causes in Los Angeles, California. According to information, the death of Walter Merrick, a US-based media house, was confirmed by a statement issued by the Academy on Saturday afternoon.

In a statement, Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang said, “The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is deeply saddened to hear of Walter’s passing. Walter was a true legend as a producer and an industry leader”. He had a powerful influence on the film community and the Academy, serving as our President and Governor of the Academy for many years. His passion for filmmaking and the Academy never wavered, and he became a dear friend and mentor Stay tuned. We send our love and support to her and her family during this difficult time”, Variety reported.

Walter Mirisch served four terms as President of the Academy from 1973 to 1977, as well as 15 years as Governor of the Academy. In addition, he was also the well-known filmmaker behind timeless classics like ‘The Apartment’, ‘West Side Story’, ‘In the Heat of the Night’ and many more.

According to information, Walter Merrick, born in New York on November 8, 1921, worked as a bomber aircraft manufacturer during World War II before studying at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Harvard Business School.

He was survived by his children, Anne, Andrew and Lawrence; his granddaughters and their husbands, Megan and Craig Bloom; and his great-grandchildren, Emery and Levi Bloom, Variety reported.
