Former President Pratibha Patil’s husband Devisingh Shekhawat passed away due to heart attack.

New Delhi:Husband of India’s first woman President Pratibha Patil, passed away at KEM Hospital in Pune on Friday morning. He was 89. In a statement, KEM Hospital said,Devisingh Ransingh Shekhawat was admitted with a cardiac issue. He recently had a fall resulting in hospitalisation for fracture fixation. During recovery, he had cardiac symptoms and was also diagnosed with a chest infection and was shifted to KEM Hospital.

An agriculturist and academician-turned-politician, Shekhawat hailed from Amravati – where he served as the first Mayor (1991-1992), and also as a Maharashtra MLA (1985-1990).
Devisingh Shekhawat is survived by wife Pratibha Patil and two children – a son and a daughter.
NCP chief Sharad Pawar also mourned Shekhawat’s demise.

Former President Ram Nath Kovind said he was shocked to know about demise of Dr. Devisingh Shekhawat.
Governor of Maharashtra: Ramesh Bais also condoled the demise of India’s First Gentleman and wrote on Twitter, “Deeply saddened to know about the demise of former MLA Devisingh Shekhwat,As the Mayor of Amravati and later as a Member of Maharashtra State Legislature, he had done remarkable work. Dr Shekhwat was a well-known educationist.
