Former Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat suffers chest injury after his car hits divider in Udham Singh Nagar

Haldwani: Ex-Uttarakhand and senior Congress leader chief minister Harish Rawat has reportedly suffered chest injury after his car hit a divider in Udham Singh Nagar’s Kashipur on Wednesday. According to the initial reports, his car met with the accident after colliding with a divider while traveling from Haldwani to Kashipur.

According to officials, Senior Congress leader’s Personal Security Officer (PSO) and other associates, who were traveling in the four-wheeler, also suffered injuries. Their hands and head were wounded, a source said.

Rawat, who is one of the longest Congress leaders in Uttarakhand, served as the chief minister of the Himalayan state from 2014 to 2017. He is also a five-time Member of Parliament.

The former CM was swiftly rushed to a hospital, where the doctors conducted CT scan and other medical tests, following which they stated that Rawat is out of danger.

“The doctors said everything was fine and discharged me…Some friends have posted about the incident on social media which may raise concerns among few. There is nothing be worried about. I am absolutely fine and so are my colleaguees,” he wrote on X in Hindi.

According to sources, Rawat was in Kashipur for a press conference. The report stated that Rawat has suffered serious wounds, while his driver and gunner narrowly escaped death.

The former chief minister complained to chest pain. The accident unfolded at around 12:15am, the report added.
