G20 Summit: Delhi metro to remain closed entry gates of these stations from Sep 8-10

New Delhi: Due to the G20 Summit, many stations of Delhi Metro will be closed from 8-10 September. The G20 summit is scheduled to be held in Delhi on 9-10 September. Many metro stations will be kept closed due to VVIP movement. In an order, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Delhi Metro, said certain entry and exit gates of these 39 metro stations will remain closed for enhanced security measures.

Delhi Police has issued an advisory and given information in this regard. It has been told that the gates of some metro stations will remain closed only during VVIP movement. Apart from this, Delhi Metro will continue to run normally.

According to the order issued by the Delhi Police, traffic will be completely closed at Moti Bagh, Bhikaji Cama Place, Munirka, RK Puram, IIT and Sadar Bazar Cantonment metro stations during September 8-10. From here, passengers can neither come inside the metro station nor can they exit from here. Police has kept Dhaula Kuan, Khan Market, Janpath, Supreme Court and Bhikaji Cama Place metro station in the list of sensitive places.

Delhi Metro also launched a special ‘Tourist Smart Card’ offering “unlimited rides” across the Metro network in two categories, which will be available for sale at selected Metro stations from today. These cards will be available in two categories – one day and three days validity – offering “unlimited rides” across the metro network.

Tourist smart cards are available even on normal days, but in view of the G20 summit, dedicated counters have been opened to sell these cards for a period of 10 days from Monday, a senior official said. However, these Tourist Smart Cards will not be available on the Airport Express Line.

The dedicated counters have been provided to “facilitate G20 delegates and international visitors who might be interested in exploring the prominent tourist places of the capital city as they arrive in Delhi, owing to the upcoming G20 Summit,” the official said. This has been done for the convenience of the G20 delegates and international visitors who may be interested in exploring the major tourist places of the capital city on their arrival in Delhi due to the upcoming G20 summit.

The one-day card will be available for Rs 200 while the three-day card will cost Rs 500. This amount also includes a refundable security deposit of Rs 50, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said.
