Government Allocates Rs 125 Crore for Establishment of Cyber Crime Police Stations in 57 Districts

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh : The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has given the green light for the creation of cyber crime police stations in 57 districts across the state, responding to the escalating need for enhanced cybersecurity measures. This strategic decision is poised to bolster the fight against cyber threats and ensure a more localized approach to tackling cybercrime.

Expansion Beyond Division-Level Stations

While the state currently houses 18 cyber crime police stations at the division level, the Cabinet’s approval extends the network to districts. Under the existing structure, the 18 divisional police stations operate under the Inspector General of Police, and the newly sanctioned district-level cyber crime police stations will fall under the purview of the Superintendent of Police.

Targeted Districts for Cyber Crime Police Stations

The selected districts for the establishment of these specialized police stations include Ghaziabad, Raebareli, Sitapur, Hardoi, Kanpur Dehat, Etawah, Baghpat, Barabanki, Mainpuri, and Rampur, among others.

Urgent Need Amidst Rising Cybercrime Cases

The surge in cybercrime incidents prompted this crucial decision to set up dedicated police stations across all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh. Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna emphasized the need for specialized units, considering the escalating challenges posed by cyber threats.

Substantial Expenditure for Enhanced Cybersecurity

The ambitious project comes with a significant cost, as it is estimated to incur an expenditure of over Rs 125 crore from the state exchequer. The financial commitment underscores the government’s commitment to fortify the cybersecurity infrastructure.

Uttar Pradesh Leads in Cybercrime Convictions

Minister Suresh Khanna proudly stated that Uttar Pradesh leads the nation in terms of convictions in cybercrime cases. The state boasts an impressive conviction rate of 87.8%, far exceeding the national average of 46.5%. Uttar Pradesh has witnessed 838 convictions, a substantial figure compared to other states. In 2022 alone, the state registered 10,117 cybercrime cases, reflecting the urgency of reinforcing cybersecurity measures.
