Greater Noida Authority to Deploy GIS Mapping to Safeguard Government Land

In a bid to safeguard government land in all 124 villages under its jurisdiction, the Greater Noida Authority has planned a comprehensive Geographic Information System (GIS) survey. Officials have revealed that this initiative is in response to the realization that a significant portion of the authority’s land has been illegally occupied. Following the GIS survey, the authority intends to launch a massive campaign to reclaim encroached land, making it available for various purposes, including allocating residential plots to farmers whose land had been acquired for city development projects.

The survey, set to commence next month, will enlist the expertise of a specialized agency and employ drones to assess the extent of encroachment in 85 villages initially, with plans to cover the remaining villages subsequently. The data collected will assist in identifying areas encroached upon by land grabbers, enabling the authority to take targeted actions.

Presently, the Greater Noida Authority allocates 6% of acquired land to landowners for residential use. However, due to the lack of available land, many farmers have not received their entitled residential plots. The GIS survey aims to pinpoint encroachments, allowing the authority to free up land that can then be allotted as residential plots to these farmers, potentially resolving a longstanding issue.

Upon completion of the survey, the authority intends to collate village-wise data on encroachments. By freeing up this land, the authority not only addresses the concerns of farmers but also ensures the planned development of the region. The initiative is expected to significantly benefit farmers and promote the smooth functioning of the Greater Noida Authority.
