Ahmedabad: The incident of collapse of a three-storey building in Jamnagar has come to light after the balcony of the dilapidated building fell during Rath Yatra in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. A major portion of three floors of a housing board building at Sadhna Colony in Jamnagar district collapsed. So far four have died in the accident.
Ten people are feared trapped under the debris of the building. The teams engaged in the rescue work had rescued three people including a child who were declared brought dead. On getting information about the incident, MPs Poonam Madam and Rivaba Jadeja reached the spot.
A three-storey housing board building collapsed in Sadhna Colony of Jamnagar in the evening. Fire engines and other emergency personnel found it difficult to reach the spot due to narrow lanes in the area. The area of Jamnagar where this incident took place is a densely populated area. Teams from other districts have also been sent for rescue work. Along with this building of Housing Board is also being evacuated.
“The building was constructed by the Gujarat Housing Board nearly three decades ago,” an official said, adding Jamnagar Corporation Commissioner DN Modi, senior municipal officials, local MLAs Divyesh Akbari and Rivaba Jadeja rushed to the spot and launched the rescue operation. It is going on under his supervision. Locals said that the building was in a dilapidated condition and there were people inside when the building collapsed at 6 pm.
