New Delhi: On Saturday, A massive fire broke out in the brake van coach of Humsafar Express in Gujarat, an official said. Humsafar Express running between Tiruchirappalli and Sri Ganganagar. When the train caught fire, there was chaos on the spot. The incident came to light light when the passengers of train number 22498 noticed smoke in one of the coaches.

Officials said that the incident took place in Valsad District of Gujarat. According to the information, Immediately the train was brought to a halt and all passengers from the adjacent coach were deboarded safely and no injuries have been reported as of now.

A railway official said, “A fire broke out in Tiruchchirappalli-Sri Ganganagar Humsafar Express around 2 pm soon after it left Valsad station towards Surat.” After receiving information, the higher authorities and police reached the spot and initiated a probe into the matter. However, The cause of the fire could not be ascertained yet.

CPRO Sumit Thakur of Western Railway said,”fire and smoke were noticed in the power car/brake van coach while the train was passing through Valsad. All passengers in the adjacent coach were immediately and safely deboarded. Thankfully, no casualties were reported due to the swift action taken by railway authorities and staff.” He further said,”Following safety protocols, the affected coach will be detached from the train, and further steps will be taken to ensure the safe departure of the train. Passengers are being kept informed and reassured of their safety.”

Last week also there was a fire in this train in Gujarat. The fire took place when the MEMU train engine caught fire a short distance from Jekot railway station in Dahod of the state. The fire was so fierce that two bogies were engulfed in it. The fire brigade team reached the spot on receiving the information about the fire. Train officials also reached the spot. After much effort, the fire was brought under control. However, in this incident too, some passenger suffered loss of life and property.
