Gujarat: Teen among 10 heart-attack deaths reported across state during Garba events in 24 hours

Gandhinagar: Navratri 2023 is underway and the celebrations double when Garba events are organized in different cities. Garba celebrations during Navratri have been quite painful in many cities as several cases of death due to heart attacks have been reported in the last few years. At least 10 heart attack deaths have been reported at garba events across Gujarat in the past 24 hours. The victims ranged from teenage to middle-aged people, with the youngest being a 13-year-old boy from Dabhoi, Baroda.

10 Heart Attack Deaths Reported In Last 24 Hours In Gujarat
Tragedy strikes after 10 people killed due to heart attacks while doing Garba amid vibrant Navratri celebrations. All of the above mentioned cases are from Gujarat and this has been extremely shocking. On October 20, a 24-year-old man from Ahmedabad suddenly collapsed and died while he was playing garba; a 17-year old also died while playing garba in Kapadwanj.

A series of similar cases have been reported in Gujarat in the last 24 hours. It has also been reported that in the first six days of Navratri, over 500 calls for heart-related issued and 609 for breathlessness were received by the 108 emergency ambulance services in 24 hours and the government has also issued an alert and asked the organisers of such events to take all necessary measures, including ensuring that ambulances are available to take people to hospitals if they feel unwell.

State Government Urges Hospitals, Health Centers To Be On High Alert
The worrying rise in deaths due to heart attacks during Garba celebrations has prompted the state government to issue an alert to government hospitals and community health centers (CHCs). The government has asked hospitals and health centers to be on high alert, especially those near Garba sites. It has been instructed by the government to the garba organisers that corridors for ambulances must be created so that in cases of emergencies, there is no delay; they have also been asked to station doctors and ambulances at the celebration venues, provide CPR training to their staff and ensure ample availability of water.

Youngest 13-Year-Old Dies

Unfortunately, a 13-year-old succumbs to heart attack in Vadodara district’s Dabhoi. Vaibhav Soni was returning from a garba event on a cycle when he fell and suffered minor injuries. He was taken to a hospital and some tests, including an X-ray, were conducted and he was discharged.

Vaibhav complained of chest pain later and his family put him to sleep after giving him some medicine. When he did not wake up a few hours later, he was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Officials said it was not clear whether his heart attack was related to playing Garba or not.
