Hindi news channel editor arrested by Gurugram police for Inciting post on Nuh violence

New Delhi: An editor of Sudarshan News was arrested by the police here for allegedly posting a misleading post on social media regarding communal violence in Haryana’s Nuh and neighboring districts. An officer gave this information. The Managing Editor of the TV channel Mukesh Kumar was arrested by Gurugram Cyber Police Station East. In fact, on July 31, six people were killed in the attack on the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s Jalabhishek Yatra in Nuh and the communal violence that followed.

The TV channel has termed the arrest of its resident editor Mukesh Kumar as an “attack on media freedom”. The channel initially alleged that some “goons abducted” Mukesh Kumar. However, it was later learned that he was arrested by the cybercrime police.

Six people were killed in clashes that broke out in Muslim-majority Nuh on July 31, when a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) procession was attacked by mobs. The dead included two home guards and a cleric.

Police said that editor Mukesh Kumar had written in one of his tweets that a foreign media house was calling the Gurugram police commissioner and pressurizing him to take action against Hindus in the communal violence case.

Gurugram Police issued a statement on Friday terming Mukesh Kumar’s allegations as baseless, false and misleading. An FIR has been registered against the editor under the IT Act and other relevant sections.

Mukesh Kumar wrote in his August 8 post, “Sources is calling the police commissioner of Gurugram to pressurize him to take action against Hindus.”

On July 31, during the Brijmandal Shobhayatra in Nuh, 6 people were killed and many were injured in the communal violence. This violence that started from Nuh had spread to many other areas of Haryana including Gurugram.
