Hope Rises for Improved Air Quality in Delhi as Light Rain Falls

This evening, Delhi experienced a gentle shower, raising hopes among residents for a significant improvement in the city’s air quality. Earlier in the day, the air quality in the capital approached the severe category, exacerbated by calm winds and cloudy conditions that trapped pollutants, as reported by monitoring agencies.

Anticipating a positive shift, the regional weather office had predicted light rain in select areas of Delhi and its surrounding regions.

RK Jenamani, a scientist from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), explained that persistent clouds over Delhi are expected to linger until tomorrow. The cloud formation is attributed to a western disturbance caused by intense circulation over central Pakistan.

The minimum temperature recorded was 13.4 degrees Celsius, marking a three-notch increase above the season’s average. The day commenced with a brisk and windy morning, coupled with a forecast for a cloudy sky and the possibility of light rain. At 8:30 am, the relative humidity was measured at 97 percent.
