Hyderabad: In yet another drunk and driving case, a 30-year-old software engineer, who was under the influence of alcohol, creates an havoc on road that leads to six accidents in Hyderabad’s IT corridor on Monday midnight, said police. The reckless driving led to the death of one person and eight others were injured. The man responsible for the accidents is identified as P Kranti Kumar, a resident of Pragati Nagar in Hyderabad.
The accused, recognised as Kranti Kumar (30), a resident of Nizampet, had been drinking at a club in Jubilee Hills before getting behind the wheel. His blood alcohol content (BAC) was recorded at 530 mg, well above the legal limit of 30mg.
Upon being alerted by onlookers, the police arrived at the scene and arrested Kranti. The pedestrian who lost his life remains unidentified, while three passengers in the auto sustained severe injuries.
The techie drove recklessly, causing six road accidents due to which one car, one auto, and three bikes were damaged, said police.
The accidents occurred between 12:30 am and 1:30 am along the stretch from IKEA to Kamineni Hospital Road in Raidurgam.
One unidentified person died on the spot, said police.
Further investigation is underway.
As per the Motor Vehicle Act, driving by a drunken person is a punishable offence with imprisonment for a term of upto six months and with a fine which may extend to Rs 2,000.
