Idol of infant Lord Ram reaches Ayodhya temple ahead of ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony

Ayodhya: Shri Ram Mandir Construction Committee chairperson Nripendra Mishra said that the infant form of Lord Ram was brought inside the sanctum sanctorum of the Ram temple in Ayodhya in the early hours of Thursday. The idol was brought to the temple in a truck, causing the entire area to echo with chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

An interesting scene of the entire incident also surfaced on social media. The idol of the Lord was lifted with the help of a crane and placed in the sanctum sanctorum, where it will be installed before the ‘Pran Pratistha’ ceremony.

A special prayers was held in the sanctum sanctorum before the idol was brought inside. The idol will be installed in the sanctum sanctorum today (January 18).

Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra announced the selection of a murti sculpted on Krishna Shila by the acclaimed Mysuru-based sculptor Arun Yogiraj as the Shri Vigraha for Bhagwan Shri Ramlalla Sarkar.

The idol, carved in black stone depicts a five-year-old Ram Lalla and weighs between 150 kg to 200 kg. The current idol of Ram Lalla, which is being worshipped for the last 70 years, will also be kept in the sanctum sanctorum of the new temple. The procession also stopped briefly at the Hanumangarhi temple in Ayodhya in a symbolic halt.

The idol was brought inside the temple for the first time on Wednesday, the second day of week-long rituals ahead of Monday’s consecration ceremony. Preparations to take the idol to the new Ram temple complex were going on since last night. Late in the night, with the help of a crane, the idol was placed on a truck decorated with flowers for the procession.

Meanwhile, a silver idol of Ram Lalla (not the same one to be installed in the sanctum sanctorum) garlanded with roses and marigolds toured the premises of Ram temple this evening. A “Kalash Pujan” was held today as part of rituals being performed in the run-up to the January 22 event.

Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram, holds great spiritual, historical and cultural significance for the people of India.
