IMD Forecasts Continued Temperature Surge Across Eastern India

In the wake of prevailing heatwave conditions gripping multiple states, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alarming predictions of a further rise in temperature across eastern India. According to the latest forecast, temperatures are expected to soar up to 44 degrees Celsius this week, amplifying concerns over the scorching weather.

Eastern India Braces for Intensifying Heatwave

The IMD’s recent observations have revealed a significant temperature surge of four to six degrees above normal in northern, southern, and eastern states over the past week. Dr. Naresh Kumar, Senior Scientist at IMD, highlighted the severity of the situation, indicating that certain stations in Eastern India have already recorded temperatures of 44 degrees Celsius. Projections suggest that this extreme heatwave could persist for the next 4-5 days, exacerbating the already challenging conditions.

Delhi-NCR Faces Rising Temperatures

In the national capital region, the Met department anticipates a gradual increase in temperature. While Delhi’s current temperature hovers around 38 degrees Celsius, it is expected to climb by another 1-2 degrees in the coming days. Moreover, there’s a possibility of light rain offering some respite from the blistering heat.

Alerts Issued for West Bengal and Odisha

With the mercury soaring, West Bengal has been placed under a red alert, signaling the alarming temperatures. Similarly, an orange alert has been issued for Odisha, indicating the seriousness of the heatwave situation in these regions.

Southern States Warned of ‘Hot and Humid’ Weather

While southern states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh may escape the heatwave’s grip, IMD has issued a ‘Hot and Humid’ warning alert for the next four days. This cautionary measure underscores the need for residents to take necessary precautions against the oppressive weather conditions.

As India grapples with the escalating temperatures and heatwave conditions, citizens are urged to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak hours, and adhere to safety guidelines to minimize the risk of heat-related illnesses.
