IMD predicts heavy rainfall in these states for today; Red alert issued for Odisha-Bengal

Weather Update: The rainy season continues across the country in terms of weather forecast. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a possibility of heavy rains in North Odisha till August 2 and in East Madhya Pradesh on August 3. Rain activity will increase over Konkan coast and adjoining Madhya Maharashtra during next three days.

New Delhi: Heavy rains have been lashing most parts of the country since the onset of monsoon. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over east and east-central India during the next three to four days and extremely heavy rainfall over south Gangetic West Bengal on Tuesday. Talking about the country’s capital Delhi, there is no possibility of heavy rain here at the moment.

Light drizzle may occur in some areas of Delhi. According to the Meteorological Department, there can be relief from the increasing humidity in Delhi next week. On the other hand, there is a possibility of heavy rains in North Odisha till August 2 and in East Madhya Pradesh on August 3. Rain activity will increase over Konkan coast and adjoining Madhya Maharashtra during next three days. IMD has issued a red alert for heavy rain for parts of Odisha and West Bengal.

Over Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Goa, and Maharashtra, severe to extreme rainfall is quite possible for today as IMD predicted. Additionally, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Karnataka are all predicted to experience significant rains.

According to IMD, there is a possibility of thunderstorm with lightning speed (wind speed 30-40 kmph) at isolated places in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Lightning very likely at isolated places over West Bengal & Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam.

The Meteorological Department has also issued Orange Alert for states like Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Goa, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The IMD has advised people to stay away from vulnerable structures and prepare for a possible flood-like situation affecting transportation.
