The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the 15-member team for the T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit Sharma is set to captain the team, with Hardik Pandya supporting him as the vice-captain.
The squad features Yashasvi Jaiswal as the other opening batsman alongside Rohit. The batting lineup is strengthened by the inclusion of Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav. Both Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson have been selected as wicketkeeper-batters. The all-rounders in the team include Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel. The BCCI has chosen Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal as the specialist spinners, with Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj forming the pace attack.
The reserves list features Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan. Notable omissions from the team and the reserves include KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, and Ravi Bishnoi, highlighting the selection committee’s preference for current form and fit.
A press conference is scheduled for May 2, where team captain Rohit Sharma and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar will address the media at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai to discuss the selection.
India’s campaign at the T20 World Cup will kick off against Ireland on June 5 in New York. Following this, India will face Pakistan, the USA, and Canada in their group stage matches, with all games scheduled to be played in the USA.
This strategic selection highlights India’s approach to blend experience with youth, banking on form and fitness to clinch the title in the forthcoming global tournament.
