Ranchi:On Tuesday, an official said that The Enforcement Directorate arrested Jharkhand minister Alamgir Alam’s personal secretary Sanjiv Lal and the latter’s domestic help Jahangir Alam after a recovery of over Rs 32 crore cash from them in Jharkhand. Sources said that after overnight interrogation, both were detained under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and then arrested.
On Monday, when ED raided the house of state’s Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam’s PS Sanjeev Lal and his domestic servant Jahangir Alam, a huge amount of notes was found there. After finding such a huge amount of cash, bank employees were called with note counting machines to count the notes. A total of 6 places were raided in this case. A total of Rs 35.23 crore cash has been recovered.
Last year, ED raided the residence of the Chief Engineer in connection with a bribe of Rs 10,000. During this, his statement was recorded. He told that the bribe money is delivered to the Minister’s residence. After that, the name of Jharkhand’s Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam came to the fore for the first time. During this investigation, the name of Alamgir’s personal secretary Sanjeev Lal came to the fore and now this cash was recovered from the house of a servant working in Sanjeev Lal’s house.
Alamgir Alam has been a four-time Congress MLA from Pakur Assembly and is currently the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Rural Development in the state government. Prior to this, Alamgir Alam was also the Speaker of the Jharkhand Assembly from 20 October 2006 to 12 December 2009. After inheriting politics, Alamgir entered politics by winning the Sarpanch election. He became an MLA for the first time in 2000 and since then has been elected MLA four times.
