Kamal Nath Alleges Distribution of Liquor and Money to Lure Voters in Madhya Pradesh Elections

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and current Congress state president, Kamal Nath, made serious allegations of voter inducement during the ongoing elections in the state. Before casting his vote, Nath expressed confidence in the Congress party’s prospects and emphasized his trust in the public to make informed choices.

In a statement, Nath stated, “I have faith in the people to make the right choice. I trust the public to side with the truth.” However, he refrained from making specific predictions about the number of seats the Congress might win, unlike incumbent Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Nath raised concerns about the alleged distribution of liquor and money to lure voters, claiming to have received phone calls and video clips supporting these accusations. He accused the BJP of utilizing police, money, and administration to influence the elections in its favor.

Voting for the 230 Assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh began at 7 am and will continue until 6 pm, with exceptions in specific assembly seats where voting concludes at 3 pm. The BJP, having ruled the state for almost 18 of the past 20 years, is seeking to retain power, while the Congress aims to oust the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government.

Security measures include webcasting at approximately 42,000 polling stations, deployment of nearly 700 companies of central forces, and two lakh state police personnel. The election will decide the fate of over 2,500 candidates, with nearly 5.59 crore voters eligible to exercise their franchise.

Results for the elections in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram will be counted on December 3, making these polls crucial for both the BJP and Congress.
