Karnataka: 6-year-old boy dies after mother throws him in crocodile-infested waters

Karnataka: Police said that a woman was arrested for allegedly throwing her six-year-old son into a canal infested with crocodiles in Uttara Kannada, Karnataka. The woman was identified as 32-year-old Savitri.

According to the police, the incident happened in Halamadi village. The woman’s husband was identified as 36-year-old Ravi Kumar. As per the police, the couple often fought with each other over the condition of their elder son, who was speech-disabled since birth.

Speaking about this incident, police said that the mother threw her child into a waste canal that is directly connected to the crocodile-infested Kali River after the couple argued on Saturday night about the same matter.

Darkness hampered the search by police and fire brigade divers and Vinod’s body could not be found. The search team recovered the child’s body from the jaws of a crocodile, which had partially eaten away his right hand on Sunday.

The body reportedly had severe injuries and bite marks. After this incident, Savitri and her husband, who work as a domestic help and a mason respectively, appeared in court and were sent to 14-day judicial custody.
