Karnataka: Former CM Siddaramaiah in custody, protesting for arrest of BJP MLA accused of taking bribe

Several Congress leaders, including former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, were detained by the police during a protest against the Karnataka government in Bengaluru.

Bengaluru: The Congress protested in Bengaluru on Saturday (March 4) demanding the arrest of BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa after his name cropped up in a bribery scandal. Congress leaders and workers protested in front of the party’s Bengaluru district office, demanding the arrest of MLA Madal Virupakshappa and resignation of CM Basavaraj Bommai.

During this, many Congress leaders including former CM Siddaramaiah were taken into custody by the police. Actually, 6 crore rupees were recovered from the house of Prashant Kumar, son of BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa.

Demand for resignation of CM Basavaraj Bommai
The protesting Congress is demanding the arrest of BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa, whose son was caught taking bribe. On the party’s protest against the Karnataka government in Bengaluru, Congress MLA Ramalinga Reddy said, “Scams and corruption are going on in the state but the government asked for proof, so it is proof. We are demanding the resignation of CM Bommai.”

Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, “The Chief Minister was lying that his government is corruption-free. What is happening then? We have never supported terrorism. Why would Congress support terrorism? Amit Shah is also a big liar.

BJP MLA Mandal Virupakshappa absconding
In fact, Prashant Kumar, son of BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa, was caught red handed by the Lokayukta team while taking bribe. After this, more than Rs 6 crore cash was recovered from the MLA’s house and office. The Lokayukta has made the BJP MLA an accused in this case. But since this incident on Thursday, he has gone underground.

After which the Congress protested, demanding the arrest of the BJP MLA and the resignation of CM Basavaraj Bommai. Many local leaders and workers including Congress’s Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah took part in the demonstration. When Congress leaders came out to lay siege to CM Bommai’s house, the police arrested them.

Earlier on March 2, 2023, the Lokayukta police in Bengaluru recovered Rs 6 crore from the house of Prashant Kumar, son of BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa. A day before this, Prashant was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 40 lakh from a contractor.
