Sources reveal that Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are considering contesting from Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi and Raebareli Lok Sabha seats respectively, in the upcoming elections. Before filing nominations, the duo might visit Ayodhya to seek blessings at the Ram Mandir.
In Amethi, BJP’s Smriti Irani currently holds the seat, while Raebareli is represented by Sonia Gandhi, who has shifted to the Rajya Sabha. With this, the Congress is eager to uphold its legacy in Raebareli.
Rahul Gandhi is contesting from Kerala’s Wayanad constituency in the second phase of polling on April 26. Speculations suggest he might file nominations from Amethi as well, marking his third contest from this seat against Smriti Irani.
Priyanka Gandhi’s Debut
For Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a potential nomination from Raebareli would mark her first Lok Sabha election campaign, succeeding Sonia Gandhi.
Past Electoral Dynamics
Amethi and Raebareli have long been Congress strongholds, although Smriti Irani’s victory over Rahul Gandhi in 2019 shifted the narrative. In 2014, Rahul secured victory in Amethi against Smriti Irani.
In Raebareli, Sonia Gandhi triumphed over BJP’s Dinesh Pratap Singh in 2019.
Upcoming Plans
Leaders from Amethi are summoned to Delhi on April 27-28 after the Wayanad polling concludes. Discussions will center on Rahul contesting from Amethi and Priyanka from Raebareli.
The Congress leaders will also explore Rahul and Priyanka’s potential visit to Ayodhya, though no official confirmation is available.
Polling for Amethi and Raebareli is slated for the fifth phase on May 20, contributing to Uttar Pradesh’s 80 Lok Sabha seats.
