Karnataka: In Setback for BJP, leader HD Thammaiah and his supporters join Congress

Bengaluru: BJP has suffered a major setback in Karnataka. BJP leader HD Thamayya along with supporters joins Congress at Congress office in Bengaluru. DK Shivakumar welcomed Thammaiah and his supporters.

Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar said that many BJP leaders voluntarily met me. They wanted change in Chikkamagaluru, 12-13 members applied for tickets. We are accepting all the old leaders. This is the trend now, they see big leaders, we see leaders who work at booth level. HD Thammaiah was Chikkamagaluru constituency’s district Convenor of the BJP, and wanted a ticket to contest in the upcoming polls.

A party worker for over 17 years, he has served in various capacities in the BJP, but never got the opportunity to contest elections. He was reportedly eying the Chikkamagaluru assembly constituency for the state polls in May this year.

In his resignation letter, Mr Thammaiah said, “I have been working in the BJP and fulfilled my responsibilities in various posts since 2007, but the current political developments have disappointed me. As a result, I wish to resign from my post as convener of the district unit as well as primary member of the BJP. I wish to express gratitude to all office-bearers, heads and members of all boards, forums and units of the BJP, who helped me in my work for 17 years. I also thank all my activist colleagues and senior leaders of the BJP.”

Let us inform that BJP National President JP Nadda will be on a tour of Karnataka on February 20 and 21, where assembly elections are likely to be held in April or May. During this, Nadda will participate in various activities and programs with the aim of strengthening the party.

After reaching Mangaluru tonight, Nadda will tour parts of Udupi, Chikkamagaluru and Hassan districts over the next two days, BJP’s Karnataka general secretary and MLC N Ravi Kumar said in a statement. He said the BJP chief will stay in the city after reaching Mangaluru.
