Madhya Pradesh: Ban on loudspeakers at religious, public places, orders CM Mohan Yadav

Madhya Pradesh: On Wednesday, After taking oath as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, in his first big decision, Mohan Yadav ordered a ban on the use of loudspeakers at religious and public places. According to sources, the ban has been placed on the “unregulated and uncontrolled use of loudspeakers. There is no restriction on regular and controlled (permissible decibel) use.”

The order cited a July 2005 Supreme Court judgment imposing 10 pm to 6 am curfew in public places (except in cases of public emergency) citing the serious effects of noise pollution on the health of occupants. The use of loudspeakers and music systems was banned. In such areas. The statement of the order said that the regulated loudspeakers are allowed to operate within prescribed decibel limits, and at prescribed times only.

It further stated that no action will be taken against loudspeakers which are being operated in accordance with the law. On October 28, 2005, the Supreme Court ruled that loudspeakers could be permitted to be used till midnight on festive occasions for 15 days a year.

Earlier in the day, BJP MLA from Ujjain South Mohan Yadav took oath as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. The 58-year-old leader was administered the oath of office by Governor Mangubhai Patel at the Lal Parade Ground in the state capital Bhopal.
