Madhya Pradesh Elections: BJP Unveils 92 Candidates; Kailash Vijayvargiya’s Son Denied Ticket

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has revealed its fifth list of 92 candidates for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly election in 2023. Among the candidates, 12 are women, showcasing the party’s diverse lineup. Some notable inclusions are former minister Maya Singh, who will contest from Gwalior East, and current minister Usha Thakur, who is fielded from the Dr. Ambedkar Nagar-Mhow assembly seat.

With this announcement, the BJP has declared candidates for 228 out of 230 assembly seats in the state, with the remaining two seats yet to be decided.

The party has given a ticket to Mausam Bisen, the daughter of Gauri Shankar Bisen, who recently joined Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s Cabinet as a minister, from Balaghat. Several other women candidates have been given tickets, including Uma Khatik from Hatta (SC), Pratima Bagri from Raigaon (SC), Radha Singh from Chitrangi (SC), former Rajya Sabha MP Sampatia Uike from Mandla (SC), and more.

Pradeep Jaiswal, who previously contested as an independent candidate after rebelling against the Congress in 2018, has now been fielded as a BJP candidate from the Waraseoni Assembly seat.

In this latest list, the BJP has not granted tickets to 29 sitting MLAs, including three sitting Ministers. Akash Vijayvargiya, son of Kailash Vijayvargiya and a sitting MLA from Indore-3, was omitted from the fresh list. Instead, Rakesh Golu Shukla will represent the party in that constituency.

The Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections are scheduled for November 17, with the vote count on December 3. In the previous 2018 assembly polls, the Congress won 114 seats, while the BJP secured 109. Subsequently, several Congress MLAs, led by Jyotiraditya Scindia, defected to the BJP, resulting in the BJP returning to power in March 2020 with Shivraj Singh Chouhan as the Chief Minister. The BJP currently holds 127 seats in the assembly.
