In response to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases and the identification of the new JN.1 variant in India, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced the implementation of guidelines issued by the Centre. The Chief Minister reassured the public of the state’s preparedness during his visit to Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal, where he assessed the healthcare arrangements.

Mr. Yadav emphasized that the health department is operating efficiently to address not only COVID-19 but also other diseases. He stated, “We have implemented guidelines issued by the Centre regarding a new variant of COVID-19 in the entire state.” The Chief Minister praised the country’s previous success in overcoming the pandemic under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the hospital visit, Mr. Yadav interacted with the attendants of patients, demonstrating his commitment to staying informed about the ground-level situation.
The Centre had recently urged states and Union Territories to maintain constant vigilance due to the rise in COVID-19 cases and the detection of the JN.1 variant. The first case of the JN.1 sub-variant was identified in Kerala on December 8. Union Health Secretary Sudhansh Pant, in a letter to states and Union Territories, highlighted the need to sustain efforts in dealing with the challenges in public health, acknowledging the recent uptick in COVID-19 cases in states like Kerala.
