Maharashtra Minister Chhagan Bhujbal Faces Death Threat

NCP MLA Chhagan Bhujbal has reportedly received a death threat through a letter at his Nashik office, prompting a police investigation.

Contract for Murder

The anonymous letter, received on Friday, claims that a contract to kill Bhujbal has been assigned to five individuals for Rs 50 lakh. The police are actively probing the matter.

Demand for Additional Security

Concerned about the threat, supporters of Minister Bhujbal are urging authorities to enhance his security measures in response to the alarming situation.

Previous Claims of Threats

In December of the previous year, Chhagan Bhujbal made a startling claim in the assembly, stating that there was police intelligence suggesting a potential threat to his life. He disclosed that he had been facing abuses and threats for the past two months amid the ongoing Maratha reservation agitation.

Election Commission’s Decision

This threat incident occurs shortly after the Election Commission’s decision to allocate the NCP name and symbol to the faction led by Ajit Pawar. The move dealt a significant blow to the faction led by party founder Sharad Pawar, leading to a renaming of the Sharad Pawar faction as ‘Nationalist Congress Party – Sharadchandra Pawar.’

Basis of Election Commission Decision

The Election Commission’s decision was the culmination of more than 10 hearings over six months. The Commission cited tests of the party constitution, aims and objectives, and majority—both organizational and legislative. The test of legislative majority favored the Ajit Pawar faction, as both groups were found to be operating outside the party constitution and organizational elections.

Inconsistencies in Sharad Pawar Group’s Claim

The Election Commission pointed out serious inconsistencies in timelines presented by the Sharad Pawar faction, leading to the unreliability of their claim to organizational majority. The assessment revealed the appointment of post occupants by self-nominated members, signaling a lack of internal party democracy.
