The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors Central (MARD) is set to launch a state-wide indefinite strike today at 5 pm, pressing for improved hostel accommodation, a stipend hike, and clearance of arrears.
The commencement of this indefinite strike underscores the urgency for authorities to address the legitimate grievances of resident doctors and ensure the provision of quality healthcare services across Maharashtra.
Dr. Abhijit Helge, President of MARD, expressed disappointment over the government’s inaction despite repeated appeals from resident doctors. Despite their faith in the authorities and multiple calls to end previous strikes, the failure to address their concerns has left them with no choice but to escalate their protest.
While initiating the strike, MARD has assured that emergency services will continue uninterrupted to guarantee essential medical care for the public during the strike period.
Approximately 8,000 resident doctors statewide will participate in the strike, advocating for improved hostel facilities, an increase in stipends, and the settlement of pending arrears.
As resident doctors unite in this strike, they urge the authorities to prioritize their demands and work towards a swift resolution to ensure the welfare and rights of healthcare professionals, thereby safeguarding the overall healthcare system in Maharashtra.
