Kolhapur/Maharashtra: In a distressing incident, a 21-year-old woman, identified as Srishti Shinde from Kolhapur, succumbs to rabies late on Monday night, merely three days after completing the anti-rabies vaccination course. The young patient, who was admitted to CPR Hospital, had been bitten by a stray dog more than a month ago, along with several others, in an unfortunate incident near KMC Chowk and Bhausingji Road on February 3.
Deceased woman was bitten by a stray dog on February 3 on Bhausingji Road. She was on her way to Shaniwar Peth and had stopped on the road to answer a phone call when a stray dog bit her on her leg.
After the incident, 21-year-old diligently underwent all five doses of the anti-rabies vaccine. However, a few days later, she began experiencing symptoms, including fever and a loss of strength in both legs. Concerned about her deteriorating condition, Srishti Shinde was swiftly rushed to a private hospital, where various tests were conducted. As her condition worsened, she was placed on a ventilator. Tragically, the test reports confirmed that she had contracted rabies.
In an effort to seek further treatment, Shinde was later taken to a government hospital for further treatment, but she died the next day.
The circumstances surrounding Srishti Shinde’s contraction of rabies after vaccination have ignited inquiries regarding vaccine storage and administration. Her family is questioning whether the vaccine was stored at the required temperature.
