Missing Tamil Nadu Congress Leader’s charred body found at his farm, hands tied with electric cables

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Congress leader KPK Jayakumar Dhansingh was missing since May 2 (Thursday). His body was recovered from a field in a mysterious condition on Saturday. Seeing the body, it was estimated that Dhansingh, Tirunelveli East District President of the Congress Party body, was half burnt and his hands and legs were tied with electrical wires.

Dhanasingh’s son Karuthaiyya Jafreen had lodged a complaint with the police on Friday regarding his father’s disappearance. The English Daily, quoting sources, has indicated a possible case of murder. District SP N Silambarasan has formed five special teams to investigate the mysterious death of the Congress leader, probing multiple angles including possible land deals linked to Dhanasingh.

The police is also waiting for the post mortem report of the leader. Jaykumar Dhansingh’s family has also alleged foul play, citing a complaint filed with the Superintendent of Police on April 30. In that complaint, the Congress leader alleged that he was receiving death threats from several persons following a financial dispute. According to The Indian Express report, his complaint also included suspicious activities around his residence.

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) President K Selvaperunthagai, in his condolence message, described Dhanasingh as a “dedicated and responsible leader”. Meanwhile, opposition party AIADMK urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin to take immediate action to arrest those responsible for Dhanasingh’s death.

Opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami criticized the DMK over the deterioration in the law and order situation in the state. Citing the death of Dhana Singh, BJP also questioned the Stalin government on the law and order situation in the southern state.
