Mizoram: On Monday, Congress has released a list of 39 candidates for its Mizoram assembly elections. Congress has released its list for the elections to be held on 40 seats in Mizoram. The announcement comes at a time when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is on a two-day tour of the poll-bound state to campaign for party candidates. The state Congress chief Lalsawta will contest the election.

The Congress has fielded Lalsangalura Ralte from Aizawl East-I constituency, which is currently held by Mizo National Front (MNF) president and Chief Minister Jormathanga. While Mizoram Congress Committee chief Lal Sawta has contested from Aizawl West-III (ST).

At the same time Lalanunmavia Chuango has been given a party ticket from Aizawl North-I (ST). Lalrindika will contest from Ralte Hachek (ST), Lalmingthanga from Selo Dampa (ST) and Lalrinmaviya from Aizawl North-II.

The Congress leader said, “It is surprising to me that the Prime Minister and the Government of India are so interested in what is happening in Israel, but not at all interested in what is happening in Manipur, where people are being killed.” , women were molested and children were killed.”

He said, “They (BJP) attack different communities, religions and languages. They spread hatred and violence in the country. They spread arrogance, lack of understanding and this is completely against the idea of ​​India.”

Mizoram, which has a total of 40 assembly seats, will go to polls in a single phase. Voting will be held here on November 7 in a single phase, the results of which will come on December 3. The current Mizoram Assembly led by Chief Minister Zoramthanga is scheduled to end its term on December 17.The electoral process began with the issuance of gazette notification on October 13, and candidates can submit their nominations till October 20.

The scrutiny of nominations will be held on October 21, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is October 23. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar also highlighted that 8.2 crore male and 7.8 crore female voters as well as 60.2 lakh first-time voters will participate in the elections in Mizoram along with Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana.

Furthermore, CEC Rajeev Kumar said that around 60 lakh first-time voters in the 18-19 years age group will participate in the elections across the five states. More than 2900 polling stations will be managed by youth to encourage young voters.

The major political entities competing for victory in Mizoram include Mizo National Front (MNF), Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The MNF, led by CM Zoramthanga, secured 18 seats in 2018 and aims to extend its tenure amid competition driven by Kuki-Meitei ethnic violence in neighboring Manipur, which has also impacted Mizoram.
